I was going through some old files on my computer and I came across some old poems and lyrics I'd written (by old, I mean between 2005 and 2009). The context of most of these is the dissolution of my first marriage and the rebuilding of my life and reentering the dating world. Looking back, they provide an interesting perspective to me. I thought I'd revise some and post them here. Some of them I found to be surprisingly good, considering I wasn't as knowledgeable and skilled about my craft as I am now. This is one I really enjoyed, and just tweaked a little. thanks for reading!

If I spoke in the tongues of
a thousand different men
Would you still need an interpreter?
Because this language barrier
Makes it so hard to find you.
Even with unfiltered ears
you can't comprehend what I say.
If I gave you a book of
all the words I wrote
Would I find it dog-eared and pen marked?
Has apathy torn apart
communication once shared?
Even with unfiltered ears
you can't comprehend what I mean.
