Thief
61
I can survive the day
with life and work
to distract my thoughts
and you
do not cloud.
When I lay down my head
for the peace of sleep
your invading face
and your
memory robs.

Oh, I can so relate to this Justin. I have a thief that lives with me at night. As soon as my eyelids close, my mind goes to things that are bothersome that happened in my life recently. And it is very difficult to let it go. Sometimes Advil PM works. I love this piece, it really hit me in my own way! Thanks!
Wow, what a take on survival, & in very few words but it does the job, excellent poem PDX. Nice!
I have had times like this, but not in many many years. Now I just need to figure out how to turn my brain off period so that I can go to sleep at a decent hour.
Great PDX:). Yeah I've had that face I'd love to put a crayon x across in my head too:) lol
Hey - I don't know if it's my computer or what but every time I try to read Freddy Mercury - my computer bumps me off right in the middle!
Great work PDX you are indeed very gifted and I look forward to so many more by you.
Take care
Eddy.
So true. Well stressed. I, however, keep on working until hours after midnight... until my brain goes zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Then not even memories can rob...
Voted up and to be pondered :)
Beautiful and touching, you made restless nights look so simple. Voted up and Shared.

Beautiful piece of writing.Loved your work.
Awesome poem...
Yeah, brother, where would we be without pawn shops?
I always enjoy your poetry; short, sweet and powerful, a good quick read at the end of a tiring day when l-o-n-g is just too taxing!
a great thief indeed...robbing you of sleep and others...awesome...
Hi PDX
There is so much truth in this poem. When I don't want to deal with an unpleasant situation, I bury myself in my work but soon as my head hits the pillow, the thief is waiting.
Voted up and awesome.
Have a good evening. :-)
Short and sweet as honey. Nicely done hub. Interesting and voted up.
Beautiful and thought provoking. Unforgotten memories, we all have them..Seems they have a way of creeping in, disturbing our quiet time..Loved it..
I'm not much of a poetry writer as I've only published a few of mine and I don't get into the essence of writing it. Which is why when I read a lot of poems, my best thing to say is interesting. So, I guess I'm going to repeat myself, an interesting poem. A bit short for my taste, but then again, I'm not too knowledgeable about poetry anyways, so what do i know. LOL!
Perfect! I think it happens to everyone just like you said at one time or another. Vote up
We are all so vulnerable in the night when we are trying to sleep and our thoughts take us places we'd rather not go.
I love how you worded this poem. It really gets the message across with so few words and making every word say something. Well done.
Great work! This is the kind of poem that should be read out loud. Voted up!
Voted up. I am not a poet which is not why I cannot write them, so I love to read them.
Ah, the time we spend alone in bed is when the bad things can creep in because there isnt anything to distract us. Beautiful.
Wonderful poem, my Friend. You truly write so well! Voted Up. Best Wishes, Kamalesh
Nicely done with an appropriate picture. Voting this Up and Beautiful.
Voted up and beautiful. I've had many a night where one face prevails and I cannot sleep.
